Have you ever purchased items from a store and in return received a coupon valid towards a future purchase during a specific time period? I know stores such as Old Navy and the Gap will give you rewards that will be valid a month after you make your initial purchase. Who actually keep up with those coupons or even remember to use them? I know I usually forget or misplace them over time!
When I have coupons for stores, I am always hoping for an amazing sale on top the coupon savings. Well I overheard a conversation between a manager and a new employee which explained why the sales are not as great when coupons are active. I was recently in Stride Rite at Orlando Premium Outlets where a new employee was being trained. She asked her manager “can a customer return their shoes and repurchase them when this coupon start?”
The manager chuckled at her question and then responded, “they would be losing money if they did because when the coupon is valid the shoes will no longer be on sale and we would have to take the discount off of the current selling price.”
I stood there thinking WOW! Stores entice consumers with amazing sales in hopes that they would return at a later date to purchase items at full-price since they have a coupon from a previous purchase.
Having a coupon does not mean you will be paying the lowest price possible. Shop smart and do not be enticed to buy items just because you have a coupon.
